The Berlin Marathon is one of the seven Abbott World Marathon Majors. Its flat course through the German capital is known as one of the fastest in the world. Start and finish are at the Brandenburg Gate.
How to get a race entry
As with most World Marathon Majors, entries are allocated by ballot. For the 2026 edition the ballot was open from 25 September to 6 November 2025, with results sent by email at the end of November.
The second route is through the official tour operators. According to the organiser they operate in 52 partner countries and “usually still have guaranteed places long after the ballot”. Only these listed partners may sell entries, other third parties are not authorised.
Race day
Runners start in waves split into start blocks A to K. In 2026 the first wave went off at 8:45 am, the sixth at 10:27 am. Entry for blocks A to C opened at 7:00 am.
The main entrance for all runners is at Platz der Republik, opposite the Reichstag building. Runners without a bag drop booking receive a poncho at the finish.
